I want to say you need to become mindful yourself. Animals pickup on your emotions/mental state, start to meditate or do something quiet like coloring or journalizing or doodling or painting etc. Send love to yourself and to your pets. Sending love to yourself will help you figure out what steps you need to do to stay calm in the frantic zone. (meditation – i just downloaded an app “calm” and the free version is amazing).
Also, find yourself a Kong toy, the ones you can place some peanut butter in…something to allow that 4 year old pup to chew on, give him different options of things to chew on also. Take him for daily walks try to make him less bored.
The cat will find places to hide, allow closets to be open so he/she can hide or places that are higher up that the pup can’t reach. if the cat is not running away then he is playing too and is not too annoyed.
