I really struggled with this for a long time, and made a lot of bad choices in life, surrounding myself with truly awful people, in a misguided attempt to help them, I spose I had a bit of a complex. What helped me the most is probably positive affirmations – and gradually cutting off connection to these draining people. Treasure Yourself, and Empower yourself by Miranda Kerr are brilliant books (treasure yourself especially for teenage girls). I also love Louise Hay – she has a book called how to heal your life among many others. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pq7BQydjYig This is one video of hers I really love. I think its all a journey and everyone has bad days sometimes. If you ever notice yourself getting into a bad mood, chuck on some happy music and dance around, or go outside in the sun for a walk, take a bath with lavender oil (very relaxing), do some meditation or yoga https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v7AYKMP6rOE. I am a nutritionist and I find eating lots of fresh healthy foods helps me to stay more in balance – and easier to be positive (and so does the occasional indulgence- dark chocolate mmm). But really for me the hardest really is having everyone else around you being negative – because they really don’t get it and it is pretty much impossible to change people. But if its your parents maybe hey can come around a little, because I’m sure they love you very much. My relationship with my parents has improved greatly since I left home for university (I’m 25 now). I call them every week and since I’m not constantly around the stressful environment of my families home is it is much easier to handle – they’re pretty grateful when they do get to see me now that I live in a different city and most of our interactions are pretty positive now. I find the more grateful I am for them, and the kinder I am the less negative they are. My next step is trying to find more like minded people – difficult where I live, which is why websites like this are wonderful, because sometimes it can be quite isolating. What I’m thinking of doing (which may be helpful for you too ) is going to a class where you can meet likeminded people in your area – perhaps beginners yoga classes or something of the like?
It is very wise to find a way to help now while you’re young, I wish I had been, because while none of the lessons are wasted, I still feel bad about all the time I wasted in my early twenties! Stay grounded! Love & light xxx Melody
